7 Popular Myths about CBD Debunked
If you’ve been researching CBD for a while, chances are you’ve come across articles that are dismissive of CBD and some others overhyping CBD and claiming it’s a wonder drug.

CBD is a hot topic, and it’s no surprise to find these misconceptions being peddled about it. We’ll address some of these misconceptions in this article so that you’ll be able to separate CBD facts from myths.
Myth 1: CBD Is the Same as Marijuana
This is the first myth that we want to debunk, as it can be a major deterrent for those who may otherwise benefit from CBD. Yes, both marijuana and CBD come from the same plant; however, their differences are significant enough such that people should not lump them together under one umbrella.
Marijuana contains high levels of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is the chemical that causes people to get high when they use it. On the other hand, CBD does not contain THC in large enough amounts (less than 0.3%) such that a person would feel any effects from its consumption.
In fact, one of CBD's benefits lies in its ability to counteract and neutralize some of THC's properties – something that medical marijuana users may benefit from.
Myth 2: CBD Is Addictive
Many people assume that CBD is addictive because it comes from the cannabis plant; however, this assumption could not be further from the truth. While marijuana can be addictive due to the psychoactive properties found in THC, CBD does not have any such effects and has been shown time and again to actually counteract some of these side effects.
Myth 3: CBD Will Show Up On a Drug Test
One of the most common concerns that people have when it comes to CBD is whether or not it will show up on a drug test. The short answer here is no.
Here’s the longer answer: CBD will not show up on a drug test provided it has less than 0.3% THC in it. Most CBD products meet this criteria, as anything above that is illegal.
However, there’s been instances where the THC concentration in products varied from the approved standard. To avoid such instances, it’s usually best to only buy CBD from brands that have had their product tested by a third-party and can show you their certificate of analysis. Here is ours.
Myth 4: CBD Is Illegal
This may surprise many people; however, CBD is actually legal in the majority of states and countries around the world.
CBD was legalized federally in the US following the signing of the 2018 Farm Bill. Of course, you may also need to check your local CBD laws to make sure that it is not banned or restricted where you live before purchasing any CBD products – but chances are good that this product will be available for sale near you.
Myth 5: CBD Is the Same as Hemp Seed Oil
Many people may say that they are using hemp seed oil when in fact they are using CBD; however, these two products do not necessarily mean the same thing. While it is true that both of these substances come from cannabis plants; some key differences set them apart.
Hemp oil is gotten solely from the seeds of hemp plants, while CBD comes from the flowers, leaves, and stalks of hemp plants. Hemp oil is primarily used for cooking or topical ointments while CBD is mostly used as a therapy for pain, anxiety, and insomnia.
Myth 6: CBD Isn't Clinically Proven to Help Any Health Condition
Many people do not use CBD because they believe that there is no clinical proof to support the claims of its benefits. This belief is unfounded, as several scientific studies have been done on the pharmaceutical advantages of CBD.
For one, the World Health Organization stated in its Cannabidiol Critical Review report published in 2017 that CBD has “been demonstrated as an effective treatment for epilepsy”.
The study also notes that there is "preliminary evidence" that CBD may help with cancer, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, psychosis, multiple sclerosis, and diabetic issues as well as pain, anxiety, and depression.
It’s true that anecdotes from users far outpace concluded clinical studies on CBD, however, this does not in any way discredit the studies done on CBD already.
Myth 7: CBD Is a Wonder Drug
While there are many benefits associated with CBD, based on early studies and anecdotes from customers, it is not the magic all-curing pill that many people make it out to be.
Keep in mind here that you should always speak with your doctor before starting any new treatment – whether it's a pharmaceutical drug or supplements like CBD oil.
The fact of the matter is that CBD may help with a number of different conditions, but it will not necessarily cure everything. CBD can be a fantastic addition to your daily wellness regimen, but you should not use it as a replacement for medication or other treatments that you would normally receive from your doctor.
