When our bodies are repeatedly taken to their limits, we need methods of recovery that promote continued wellness, so we can continue to perform at our best. Opiates only mask pain, while creating long term physical problems and addictions.  In contrast, CBD as a non-intoxicating alternative, can provide direct, holistic recovery, through its natural relationship with our endocannabinoid system.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID system

The Endocannabinoid system is a self-regulating network of cannabinoid receptors located in nerve cells throughout the body. CB1 & CB2 receptors are the most well studied and are involved in maintaining our bodies natural balance. CBD does not bind directly to, but has the ability to stimulate these receptors and as a result, can strengthen our bodies natural response to stress, inflammation, and pain.

  • Activation of the CB1 receptor, found in the brain, spinal cord, and central nervous system, appears to play a role in memory processing, motor regulation, desensitizing pain, regulating sleep and calming anxiety.
  • Activation of the CB2 receptor, found in the peripheral nervous system, spleen and immune cells, is likely responsible for reducing the body’s inflammatory response, which can help reduce tissue damage and assist in shortening recovery time.

CBD’s influence on these receptors can provide both immediate and long-term therapeutic benefits, meeting the performance needs of athletes on and off the field, court, street, and mountain.

What is CBD?

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 113 cannabinoids found in the cannabis sativa plant, which has two primary species: hemp and cannabis. Both contain CBD, but there’s a much higher percentage in hemp, which also has a lower (less than 0.3%) level of THC, the main intoxicating chemical in cannabis.

Our products have been derived from hemp, not cannabis, and have no THC. However, if you are shopping for hemp based products, it helps to understand the following three categories: “Full Spectrum”, “Broad Spectrum”, and “Isolate”, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Full Spectrum

Full Spectrum products that contain all of the plant’s naturally-occurring compounds. This includes other beneficial cannabinoids, terpenes and fatty acids, as well as negligible levels of THC (>0.3%).

Broad spectrum

Broad Spectrum products are a blend of cannabinoids, terpenes and fatty acids that naturally occur in the hemp plant. An extraction process is utilized to remove the THC compound, while maintaining substantial levels of other valuable cannabinoids.

Isolate

Isolate products contain only CBD. All the other components of the hemp plant have been extracted, however, the maximum potency of pure CBD is achieved.

Difference between Hemp and Marijuana?

From a species perspective they are the same plant, however the main difference lies in how much THC and CBD levels are in each. Hemp contains less than (0.3% THC), and is industrially cultivated for everything from cosmetics to rope. On the other hand, Marijuana is cultivated to produce the highest level of THC, and is federally illegal in the United States.

 

 

CBD vs THC?

Of the 113+ phytocannabinoids found in the hemp plant, by far the most well known are CBD and THC. But what is the difference?

  • THC ( Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is the psychoactive component of Cannabis, and is responsible for the intoxicating effect that users feel when they smoke or ingest cannabis. In other words, THC is what gets you high or stoned.
  • In contrast, CBD  (Cannabidiol), has no intoxicating effects and has become a popular substitute because of its ability to give the medicinal benefits of Medical marijuana without getting you high. It is evident that CBD elicits a more modulating effect of the endocannabinoid system as a whole while THC has a more neuroprotective role.

Chemically, THC and CBD are very similar, both having 30 hydrogen atoms, 21 carbon atoms, and 2 oxygen atoms, but a slightly different structure. The slight difference in the structures is the reason why THC has a great affinity for the CB1 receptor in the brain, producing the mind altering effects, while CBD influences the CB1, but does not directly bind to it in the same manner as THC. This is why CBD does not intoxicate you, but instead works to maintain physiological balance.

IS CBD LEGAL?

Hemp based CBD products are federally legal in all 50 states.  However, individual states can still determine if they want hemp based products sold within their borders.
